CultureMielle Organics recently transformed The Linden on Sunset Boulevard into a vibrant floral oasis, marking 12 years of unparalleled growth and community impact. The Los Angeles event, titled "The Garden of Mielle," was held in 2026 and served as more than just a typical beauty influencer gathering; it was a testament to the brand's enduring commitment to the synergy between botanicals, hair care, and holistic wellness.
The trendy Black-owned restaurant, located at 5936 W Sunset Blvd, was artfully decorated with fuchsia roses and blush-pink peonies, strategically placed alongside Mielle's signature products. This elaborate installation was designed to symbolize the brand's journey through a decade of perseverance, community building, and significant expansion. Attendees were welcomed with specially crafted Mielle-themed beverages, and the atmosphere buzzed with creativity, as guests showcased a diverse array of intentional hairstyles, from floral-structured locs and fulani braids to hydrated curls and sleek cornrows, mirroring the vibrant flora surrounding them.

Monique Rodriguez, the visionary founder and CEO of Mielle Organics, was present at the celebration, accompanied by her daughter, Mia Rodriguez. Her presence underscored the personal journey that has defined the brand's success. Mielle Organics officially bloomed in 2014, a venture Monique, a registered nurse, launched from her basement. The inspiration for the brand stemmed from a deeply personal quest for healthy hair solutions, following a devastating loss in 2013 when she experienced a high-risk pregnancy that resulted in the loss of her son. Her initial product experiments and engaging online presence quickly propelled the brand to widespread recognition.
The event drew an impressive roster of beauty industry tastemakers. Among the notable figures were award-winning journalist Gia Peppers, known for her work as host and executive producer of "More Than That with Gia Peppers" and a contributor on NBC's "Today Show." Also present was Ava Pearl, founder of Curly Culture and CurlyCon LA, a digital media company dedicated to empowering multicultural women about curly hair. Cosmetic chemist Javon Ford, recognized for his innovative product development and popular social media presence where he debunks beauty myths, also joined the celebration. Rounding out the esteemed guest list was hair architect and celebrity hairstylist Susy Oludele, a self-taught braiding expert who owns Hair by Susy salons and has styled for stars like Solange and Beyoncé.
The evening's program featured a curated three-course dinner and a candid fireside chat led by Gia Peppers and Monique Rodriguez. During their discussion, Rodriguez spoke openly about the unique pressures of entrepreneurship and visibility, particularly as a Black woman navigating the business world. She reflected on her achievements, stating, "I’ve done things that, quite frankly, haven’t been done by a Black woman." She expressed deep gratitude for Mielle's longevity, remarking, "I’m truly grateful to still be here 12 years later. Despite the ups and downs, even when people tried to tear me down." Rodriguez also shared insights into the sacrifices that paved the way for Mielle’s global success, advising, "Do not worry about being liked. Your mission is to spread light." She further emphasized the importance of authenticity, urging, "Stay committed to your passion and stay authentic to who you are," advocating for purpose over perception in a world she described as superficial. She affirmed, "But as long as you stay true to yourself, people will see that. They will know your character, and they will support you through the ups and downs."

The brand's remarkable trajectory was also highlighted by executives from Procter & Gamble. Juwan Thompson, Assistant Vice President of Communications at Procter & Gamble, a senior leader for brands like Old Spice and Ivory, discussed Mielle's global search for botanicals and the inherent benefits of ingredients such as rosemary and mint. Thompson noted, "Everything connects back to the benefits they provide, it starts with a plant growing in the wilderness and transforms into a pure oil inside our product." Tomeka Williams, Global Vice President at Procter & Gamble, who also serves as Vice President of Global Brand Design for P&G and previously managed North America hair care sales for a multi-billion-dollar portfolio including Mielle, lauded Mielle’s success, stating, "The story behind Monique and Melvin and what they’ve actually been able to build is inspiring." Williams added that it "makes people gravitate toward this moment of growth."
Mielle Organics' journey has been punctuated by significant milestones that have reshaped the beauty industry landscape. In 2021, the brand secured a historic non-controlling nine-figure investment exceeding $100 million from Berkshire Partners, an achievement that made Monique Rodriguez the first Black woman to secure such a substantial investment. This was followed by a landmark acquisition by Procter & Gamble in January 2023, completed on March 1, 2023, marking the largest exit to date for a Black female beauty founder. Under this strategic partnership, Mielle continues to operate as an independent subsidiary of P&G Beauty, with Monique and Melvin Rodriguez maintaining their pivotal leadership roles as CEO and COO, respectively. The acquisition also solidified a joint commitment of $10 million from P&G and Mielle to Mielle Cares, the brand's non-profit arm, dedicated to supporting educational and economic initiatives within Black and Brown communities. Furthermore, this partnership has positioned Mielle Organics as the NFL's first official textured hair care partner.
Discussions throughout the intimate dinner touched upon the challenges of sustaining a brand in today's competitive climate, with Mielle's decade-long endurance serving as a powerful testament to its lasting legacy. Kierston Jackson, Senior Hair Scientist at Mielle, emphasized the brand's unwavering commitment to delivering on its product promises, citing the hydration offered by the Kalahari Melon & Aloe Vera Collection and the strength provided by the Rosemary Mint Collection. Jackson noted, "Delivering on that promise has allowed the brand to stand the test of time. I am excited to see how that continues to grow as we evolve." Rodriguez also shared that the brand is planning to evolve beyond hair care, while remaining deeply rooted in its original mission, affirming, "I am still the voice for our mavens. I am still highly involved in selecting innovative products and ingredients. I am just looking to amplify that even more."
As the evening concluded, guests received tote bags filled with Mielle’s newest Lavender & Lychee and Rosemary Mint collections, alongside a custom silk scarf embroidered with "Mielle Garden of You." Rodriguez left the group with final words of wisdom: "If you enter a space and it is not real and authentic and it is superficial, it will not be sustainable. If you want longevity and to be here for a long time, stay authentic." This powerful message resonated throughout the celebration, reinforcing the idea that authentic growth, like a well-tended garden, requires consistent nurture and true self-expression to truly blossom and endure.
