SIMIEN: Sister Trio Takes Creative Control with Akon's Backing

1w ago

The music industry is buzzing about SIMIEN, the Atlanta-based trio of sisters Taédym, Jaiden, and Kamrein, who are not just performing but also independently writing, producing, and engineering their own urban electro-pop sound. Their fierce dedication to creative control, combined with the powerful backing of global superstar Akon, positions them as a compelling new force in music.

Akon publicly introduced SIMIEN in April 2024, expressing his strong conviction that the trio possesses the star power to become "music's next big draw." He shared that he was connected to the sisters through Vince, a partner from his past work with Lady Gaga, and had showcased them in Miami before their move to Atlanta. Akon lauded them as "amazing artists" and his "little superstars," suggesting they could well be the "next biggest act in the music business." Following this, reports indicate the sisters also met with industry heavyweights L.A. Reid and Usher, who reportedly believed in the group and signed them to a label.

SIMIEN officially dropped their debut single, "Utterly in Love," in August 2025, released under Akon's revived Konvict Kulture label. This track marked their official emergence as original creators, showcasing their talent in writing, producing, and performing their own material. The group has also been featured on Akon's track, "Never Really Mattered," and collaborated with him on the song "Sugar." Taédym described the creation of "Sugar" as an organic and fun process, where Akon initially provided the beats, and the chorus and verses naturally came together before Akon decided to join the track himself. The music video for "Sugar" was released around April 2026.

The sisters' journey began in Los Angeles, where they grew up steeped in a rich Creole, Louisiana, and Native American heritage. Their formative artistic training came from the prestigious Debbie Allen Dance Academy, an institution founded by the renowned artist Debbie Allen, known for its emphasis on dance education and artistic development. This rigorous background provided a strong foundation for their performance careers. Their decision to relocate from Los Angeles to Atlanta signifies a new phase, building on their burgeoning momentum in the music scene.

SIMIEN's musical style is a unique blend of alternative rock, R&B, and pop, a sound they've coined Urban Electro-Pop. The sisters emphasize their refusal to be confined by genre, stating, "We don't limit ourselves." Their diverse inspirations span across music legends such as Rihanna, Aaliyah, Prince, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and Cher, demonstrating a deep appreciation for authenticity in their influences. Taédym also credits their parents as significant influences in their lives.

At the heart of SIMIEN's artistry is their undeniable sisterly bond. Taédym acknowledged that while they have distinct personalities and "might fight a little bit," Jaiden quickly clarified that any internal disagreements never spill over into or interfere with their creative work or music. This strong familial foundation appears to fuel their collaborative spirit and shared artistic vision.

Creative control remains a cornerstone of SIMIEN's identity. Jaiden articulated their philosophy, stating, "For us it's just important to be involved in our craft and what we do." Kamrein echoed this sentiment, adding, "One big thing as a group is it's important to be yourself, have the creative freedom, have the right team around you, and just to be you." This commitment extends to their hands-on approach in writing, producing, and even engineering their own tracks, ensuring their vision is authentically realized.

Their fanbase, affectionately known as the "SIMINATI," connects deeply with SIMIEN's music, which often explores themes of love, identity, and empowerment. These listeners are described as individuals who seek to express themselves and feel understood through the trio's authentic sound. SIMIEN's presence in the music scene is widely regarded as bringing a "fierce and fresh way" of authenticity to the industry.

With a powerful mentor in Akon, a unique sound, and an unwavering commitment to their artistic independence, SIMIEN is not just entering the music landscape; they are carving out their own space. Their journey from the Debbie Allen Dance Academy to the global stage, all while maintaining creative command, signals a compelling future for these "little superstars" and their devoted "SIMINATI."
